3G Converter Boxes
To help complete the 3G Transmission
system, Grass Valley will show
its first two 3G Transmission
converter boxes at IBC 2011.
While traditional, home-based television viewing will be around for the foreseeable future, providing streaming video to mobile devices has become the newest way to reach eyeballs. Tablet computer and smartphone
penetration figures continue to climb at a dizzying pace, and broadcasters
and content owners must reach those devices to stay competitive.
The company realizes that camera
connectivity is sometimes not as
simple as camera-to-cable-to-base
station. Sometimes connectivity
will need to jump between triax,
SMPTE hybrid fiber, and dark fiber.
As many have found, reaching those devices can be costly with many
organizations relying on manual processes: re-producing and re-formatting
videos for online distribution. To be truly competitive, the process of
taking broadcast (and non-broadcast) videos and formatting them for
each mobile device with a variety of resolutions needs to be automatic.
3G Camera to 3G Fiber
Converter—Takes single mode
(dark) fiber and provides a full 3G
triax connection to the camera.
To simplify this process, Grass Valley developed MediaFUSE® for Ignite™
and the standalone MediaFUSE FX automated content repurposing and
multi-distribution systems. MediaFUSE gives users a pathway to “create
once and publish everywhere” both live and pre-recorded content for
the web and mobile devices.
3G Fiber Power Converter—
Converts single mode (dark) fiber
to full SMPTE hybrid fiber for
connection to a 3G fiber camera.
MediaFUSE automates the process of editing, encoding, and distribution
to multiple publication points, making it possible to add rich metadata
throughout the process. The system provides a set of common tools for
production, transcoding, and content deployment to popular third-party
content management and content delivery systems, and is easy to use.
Grass Valley has additional
3G Transmission converter boxes
under development.
With today’s media hungry viewers, streaming means more than just
video. MediaFUSE provides easy-to-use management tools for video as
well as still imagery (such as thumbnails and slide shows) and textual
content. This means that content can easily be repurposed. A 30-second
news story can have a 90-second expanded online package, so you can
promote in-depth content to gain viewership on a variety of platforms.
MediaFUSE can also keep track of the rights associated with your
media and help target advertising based on the delivery method and
platform, including replacing ads within live streaming content.
The result for the bottom line is faster, more efficient, and more
profitable content distribution.
